FAQ's about Financial support

Do I have to support you on a monthly basis?
No, many supporters send in lump sums on an annual or quarterly basis. The key for us is to know how much you are being led to invest during the given year. This helps us know if we are going to reach our yearly financial goal and if we need to seek additional partners.

What if for some reason I can't fulfill my financial commitment?
We are acutely aware that life is largely out of our control. We also know that God is in control; so if for some reason you can’t continue to support us as committed, please let us know. We are confident that none of this has caught Him by surprise and that He is fully aware of both our needs - and able to meet them. Please do let us know though, so that we can pray for you. It is discouraging when a ministry partner sends no money and no explanation.

Who determines the amount of support you must raise?
Each Staff member has the same base salary, which is predetermined each year according to the U.S. government's category for a "moderate standard of living". This base figure is then adjusted according to marital status, number and ages of children, housing needs, ministry requirements, and cost of living in the specific ministry location. No staff member receives any additional income other than that pre-determined by the ministry. This ensures equality and guards against a materialistic lifestyle and a desire to obtain a position in the ministry that pays more. If the staff member does not have sufficient funds to cover the needs mentioned above they will be asked to devote their full attention to fund development. Unlike the government we can't spend what we don't have in our account. CCC has been ranked first by "Money" magazine among religious charities on the basis of how efficiently financial gifts are used. 88% of what you send will be allocated to our account. Of the remaining 12%, 7% is used to cover administrative costs and 5% is used to fund the overseas expansion of CCC, as staff in other countries do not have the resources we have in the US.

Why can't I send my gift directly to you?
You can, as long as the check is made out to Cru or Campus Crusade for Christ (we will then send it in). We can't receive personal checks because we personally are not a non-profit organization so you would not receive a tax-deductible receipt. Furthermore, because of government regulations, we can only receive a limited amount of personal financial gifts from non-family members per year.

Why don't you pick up a part-time job to supplement your income?
Due to Campus Crusade’s unique status with the IRS, no one in this ministry is allowed to do that. Furthermore, this could serve as a distraction from our call to reach students.

Why was this system of support raising chosen, and is there any biblical support for it?
Campus Crusade for Christ is the largest missionary organization in the world. A central fund raising program could never accommodate our ever-increasing staff family. By requiring staff members to develop their own support; motives are purified and faith in God is strengthened. This also allows for supporters to stay personally involved with someone they know rather than giving to an impersonal organization. Throughout history, God has financially freed up those whom He called to serve Him fulltime through the gifts of others. Numbers 18:21 and 35:1-5 point out the Israelite's responsibility to use their tithes to fund the work of the Levites (God's fulltime workers in the Old Testament). In the New Testament, Philippians 4 indicates that the church supported Paul. I Corinthians 9 teaches that those who do the Lord's work should be provided for financially. Even Jesus and His disciples depended on the gifts of their friends to meet their financial needs (Luke 8:1-3). As I Tim. 5:18 puts it: "The laborer is worthy of his wages."

Will Campus Crusade bill me every month?
No, CCC will send you a receipt and a new envelope for your next gift within a couple of days after your check is received at headquarters. Many people then tuck this away with the rest of their monthly bills and pay it at the same time each month. If for some reason you do not get an envelope back or you misplaced the one you received, just send your gift to us and we will send it in for you.

What is the Campus Crusade for Christ official funding statement?
It is the policy of Campus Crusade for Christ International that each staff member develop a team of ministry partners to support his/her ministry. Campus Crusade's salary structure is based on need, not on a position of leadership. All staff members, including the president, Steve Douglass, work under the same financial policies and pay scale. In order to keep our staff free from financial distractions and focused on our mission, our salary structure promotes a moderate lifestyle, longevity in ministry, and individual freedom and responsibility for staff.
